MTBI - Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
PCS - Post Concussion Syndrome
Wellllll... so much for wishful thinking. After that fall down the stairs in April, when it seemed I'd been one lucky duck and avoided a spinal or head injury, I now have 3 new medical acronyms to add to my 'life list' of medical knowledge.
Some things we study simply for the love of the subject; others are thrust upon us due to a need to learn more about an annoying condition we may contract simply by virtue of being mortal beings :/
For several years I've been slow to accept that I'm no longer made of rubber. When I fall (literally or figuratively) I may not bounce back as easily as in my younger days. Heck! who am I kidding... there's no 'may not' about it. I think it's safe to say I'm going to be one crabby old lady if I can't stay self-reliant and independent in those so-called Golden Years ahead! You know I'm counting on you kids to take me in and tell the veterinarian: it's time to put 'er down!
Two weeks to the day after my fall I entered into the realm of the PCS. In bed, sick and exhausted, for weeks & months on end just isn't my idea of time well spent. It drives me batty (big surprise, I know)
But, learning how much worse it could have been, and how much more others have suffered, I know I am extremely fortunate to be where I'm at at this point. And I think the healing in my bruised noggin is turning in my favor and I'll be through this by the end of summer.. keeping my toes and eyes and fingers crossed!
In fact, I'm feeling so much more positive that I told Papa to cancel my walker order.
